The educational objective of the international Master’s Degree in Development and Migration Studies is to provide knowledge, skills, and practical abilities in the field of development cooperation and migration governance, with a view to designing, planning, and managing interventions on a global scale and in different national contexts.
The educational program aims to train professionals active in the field of cooperation and development, providing them with the tools to understand the realities of underdevelopment, of issues related to economic growth, sustainable development, poverty reduction policies, as well as processes of democratization, globalization, and international governance, human rights protection, environmental issues, and gender studies, with a particular focus on vulnerable individuals and migrants.
Our goal is to prepare students for analysis —both public and private contexts—and intervention in the field, by providing guidance and insights into the effectiveness of development interventions and migration management in different contexts: local, regional, and global, as well as within multiple work environments.
What do you learn?
The program, taught entirely in English, is structured to allow students to pursue a path consistent with their professional prospects and to ensure mobility (incoming/outgoing) within international programs: double degrees, integrated study programs, credit mobility, active with European and non-European countries. guarantee a wide range of practical activities in the field in collaboration with international agencies, NGOs, foundations, etc., which actively participate in the life of the degree program.
The educational program, characterized by a strong interdisciplinary approach, combines knowledge and analytical tools from the fields of economics, history, philosophy, political science, anthropology, statistics and social sciences, sociology, law, demography, geography, and area studies. 12 credits are dedicated to practical knowledge such as internships and activities useful for job placement in collaboration with industry players and post-graduate internships carried out in Italy or abroad.
The acquisition of additional language skills aims to enable students to broaden their range of working languages beyond English, especially Arabic, French, German, Spanish, Maori, and Swahili.
Teaching combines lectures with active student participation: classroom presentations, reports, essays, project writing, etc., and the organization of seminars involving experts in the field.

The professional profile developed by the course is suited to a wide range of professional positions in international organizations and agencies, EU offices, bilateral and multilateral development cooperation agencies, local authorities working in the field of decentralized cooperation, non-governmental organizations, associations, third sector foundations, national and international research centers, consulting, communication, and information companies, as well as non-governmental organizations working specifically in the design, implementation, and management of migration policies and development programs at the local, regional, national, and global levels.
