What is the objective of the course? What is it?
What does it train you for?
What does it train you for?
The Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Sciences and Technologies prepares students for the role of junior agronomist: management of plant and animal production, processing and marketing of agricultural products, technical and economic management of agricultural and agri‑food enterprises, implementation of agricultural and rural development policies, and economic and valuation assessments of agricultural assets and properties.
The Agricultural Sciences track focuses on ensuring high standards of safety, quality, and wholesomeness of food production, promoting efficient resource use and reducing environmental impact.
The Agroecology track explores farming systems oriented toward sustainability, multifunctionality, and ecosystem services.
Organic agriculture plays a central role, representing an established component of food consumption and a key expression of agro‑environmental policies.
The Agroengineering track addresses technologies and digital solutions, integrating technological innovation with environmental protection and food safety and quality goals.
This pathway trains professionals in the technological evolution of the agricultural sector, promoting efficient and responsible solutions.
What do you learn?
The graduate in Agricultural Sciences and Technologies develops solid foundational scientific knowledge—Mathematics, Chemistry, Plant and Animal Biology, Agricultural Genetics—essential for building advanced professional skills.
On this basis, the modern agronomist is trained to competently address agronomic aspects, cultivation techniques, crop protection, livestock management, and the economic dynamics of agricultural enterprises.
The graduate acquires analytical tools for land asset evaluation, planning of cropping systems, and technical‑economic management of farms.
They also gain the ability to understand and apply rural development policies and to engage in the transformation and marketing processes of agri‑food products.
The choice among three tracks allows students to personalize their education:
- Agricultural Sciences, for broad, integrated preparation in key agricultural fields;
- Agroecology, focused on sustainability, ecological interactions, and the multifunctionality of agriculture;
- Agroengineering, centered on innovative and digital technologies applied to production systems.
This structure enables graduates to integrate scientific, technical, and economic skills, preparing them to work in a rapidly evolving sector that is increasingly central to environmental, food, and socio‑economic sustainability.
What can you do with it?
To complete their educational path, graduates may continue their studies in the Master’s Degrees offered by the University of Palermo in the field of agricultural sciences, allowing them to define the professional area that best matches their interests.
After obtaining professional qualification, graduates can work as Junior Agronomists by registering in Section B of the Professional Register of Agronomists and Foresters.
This role is authorized to operate in several sectors:
- Design and consultancy in agricultural, livestock, forestry, and environmental systems, and in the processing and marketing of agri‑food products;
- Protection and restoration of agricultural ecosystems, combating desertification, and preserving biodiversity;
- Appraisal, cadastral, topographic, and cartographic activities supporting rural land management;
- Technical, accounting, and tax assistance to companies producing goods and technical means for agriculture;
- Quality certification and analysis of plant, animal, and forest products, both primary and processed.
Additional opportunities include agricultural entrepreneurship, technical and administrative roles in Public Administration, research and innovation activities, international institutions involved in agricultural and environmental policies, and private companies providing specialized services to the sector.
