What is the objective of the course? What is it?
What does it train you for?

The technician in Propagation and Nursery Management in the Mediterranean environment will acquire knowledge in the field of plant production, defence, biotechnologies applied to agriculture, economics and marketing. Furthermore, he or she will acquire knowledge on the certification of nursery productions, on the constitution and protection of new plant varieties and their consequent registration. At the end of the training course, the graduate will be able to address and solve problems related to:

  • Propagation and management techniques for plants in nurseries;
  • Nutrition and irrigation of plants, physiopathies, harmful insects; Economics, marketing and management of nurseries.

What do you learn?

The degree in Propagation and nursery is focused on:

  • preparing substrates and nutrient solutions; pruning, grafting, transplanting, potting plants;
  • managing the irrigation and air conditioning systems of the nursery;
  • drawing up the inventory of warehouse stocks; carrying out the treatments for plant defence;
  • wholesale or retail sale of nursery products;
  • carrying out routine maintenance on machinery and equipment.
Further skills acquired concern: knowledge of species and varieties (ornamental and fruit plants, garden plants, etc.); ability to recognize symptoms of plant diseases (phytopathology); horticultural skills; knowledge of irrigation and fertilization techniques.

What can you do with it?

This degree opens up the following employment opportunities: - freelance profession for consulting services to companies in the sector; - Private nursery companies; - Public bodies (e.g. government nurseries); - Nursery producer associations. The courses provided in this program do not prepare students to continue their studies in a Master Degree.
